Rave: I love literary quote tattoos!

Does anyone else out there have any literary quote tattoos (or any literary tattoos, for that matter?) I have one, from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, as spoken by Dumbledore to Harry: Time is making fools of us again.

It was so hard for me to pick just one quote to tattoo on my body from the Harry Potter series. I chose the one that I related to the most; as I get older, it feels that time is flying by, and there is nothing I can do to stop it. I got the tattoo after my divorce to my first husband (yes, I am on husband number two of two, for those of you that don't know), and it hit home in all sorts of ways. I spent seven years of my life with my ex, and in retrospect, it got me nowhere. Time made a fool of me. Hence the tattoo.

The quote reminds me to not take life for granted, and to try and make the most of the time I have.

I also wanted a quote that could stand alone from Harry Potter, and in fact, most people don't recognize it until I tell them.

I have seven other tattoos (none literary/quote related), and would love about a dozen more, but my husband doesn't love tattoos, and marriage is all about compromise, right?

I got this tattoo in July 2011 at Arkham Tattoo in Akron, Ohio.

  1. I love it, Jackie! I have a butterfly tattoo I got with my best friends when I was 18. It's kind of lame and silly, but we're all still best friends, so it's a fun story between us. I'd love to get more, especially a literary quote, but constantly change my mind. I love that yours has so much meaning to you.

    1. Thanks! As long as your tattoo is important to you, and symbolizes a great friendship you have, that's all that counts. I'd be lying I said I didn't regret any of my tattoos, though. It's best to proceed with caution, no matter how addicting it can be. ;)

    2. Well, not regret, exactly, but I know I wouldn't get some of the same tattoos now that I'm older. Live and learn!

  2. Very nice!!! I've been wanting a book quote to add to my collection of tattoo's :) I just DON'T know what to get or where to put it. I'm so indecisive, hence, why I haven't got one yet!! But I love yours! I have this old, worn out, little notebook that I keep in my back pocket, so where ever I go if I happen to read something that sicks with me, I can easily pull out my notebook and scribble it down. I got a couple quotes in there to choose from. Keep an eye out on my blog! You know if I ever get it, I'll share it in a post! ;) xoxo ♥

  3. Getting a tattoo that has to do with my love for books (especially HP and fairy tales) is something I'm definitely considering for the future :) I really like how you choose one from HP that isn't so popular.
